Hippocrates, the father of medicine, recommended Wormwood for menstrual pain, rheumatism, and anemia. By the Middle Ages, it was considered a general remedy for all diseases. Today, the plant contains Vitamin C, carotenoids, flavonoids, phenolic acid, tannins, and other healthy compounds. The Thujone in Wormwood excited the nervous system and can cause seizures and other adverse effects. Strictly external use is recommended. Due to its antimicrobial and antifungal properties, the tea can be used as a skin or wound wash and the oil is good for assisting with fungal infections.
