Passion Flower was historically used as a sedative and used in folk medicine to treat anxiety, insomnia, seizures, and hysteria due to its calming properties. Today, Passion Flower is promoted as a dietary supplement for anxiety and sleep problems as well as for pain, heart rhythm problems, menopausal symptoms, and ADHD. It can also be applied to the skin for burns and hemorrhoids. Passion Flower contains many antioxidants including Vitamin C and lycopene that neutralize damage from free radicals. It is said to protect skin cells and their DNA from the aging effects of the sun. Studies have shown that it increases dopamine levels. It should be taken at night.
